Saturday on Fox News Channel’s “Justice,” President Donald Trump blamed congressional Democrats for the current shutdown based on their opposition to a U.S.-Mexico border wall.Trump called it”
bad politics for them,” and said he was still open to the possibility of stating a “national emergency.”
PIRRO: Exists an emergency situation at the southern border? Should we not now utilize the emergency funds and the powers that you have in your belongings?
TRUMP: So, we have a humanitarian crisis, to put it slightly. Individuals are trying to get in by the 10s of thousands. They’re rushing the border. There’s right now in Honduras– a country we pay a great deal of loan to, I believe mistakenly since they do not help us. But today, you have another caravan forming, and it’s going to be the most significant one yet.
We stopped the last one. You see what’s going on in Tijuana. They could not survive due to the fact that we have a wall there.
We got a wall up. The armed force’s been fantastic, Border Patrol has been unbelievable, and ICE is, you know, these are brave individuals that do a great job. And we stopped them.
But there’s another huge one forming. We need a wall, extremely basic. Whether you call it a steel barrier, wall, it does not matter, however we need a very strong structure.
PIRRO: But by waiting to build the wall utilizing those funds that are available to you in a nationwide emergency, aren’t you negating the point of the emergency itself?
TRUMP: Well, I have the absolute right to call a national emergency situation. Other presidents have actually called many nationwide emergencies for things of lower value, honestly, than this. And I deserve to do it.
I ‘d rather see the Democrats come back from their vacation and act. They’re not acting, and they’re the ones that are holding it up. It would take me 15 minutes to get an offer done, and everybody could return to work. However I want to see them act properly, and they’re not acting responsibly, which’s it.
We could be– I’m in the White Home, and most of them remain in different places. They’re seeing a specific musical in a really good location and– PIRRO: Naturally, in Puerto Rico watching “Hamilton.”
TRUMP:– frankly, it’s absurd. The entire thing is outrageous.
We have a very important thing to do. We have to have border security, and we have to get people getting paid once again really quickly.
PIRRO: But what about, as this occurs, hook, you were in the White Home– look, you remained in the White Home during the Christmas holidays and over New Year’s, and you have actually existed since. Nancy Pelosi’s in Hawaii over the holidays. Now she remains in Puerto Rico with a lot of Democrats and lobbyists, you know, enjoying the sun and partying down there.
But what makes you think that these people want to cut a deal? If you have revealed your capability to negotiate by altering to a slat, consenting to all of their demands as it relates to, you understand, innovation, electronic fencing and all of the other things, the humanitarian aid, they sit there. They do not even look you in the eye. What makes you think that they’re going to in any way cavern?
Because if these people said 13 and then, once again, six years earlier, we need a wall, we need a wall, now, you’re the president, they do not desire a wall. What makes you believe they’re returning?
TRUMP: Well, they might not. I suggest, you know, frankly, I wanted to do something, and we’re requesting for $5.6 billion, which is way less than what other presidents have been talking about.
You understand, if you recall, this ought to have been done 30 years ago, twenty years ago, 10 years back. This must have been done by others. Much like if you look at Jerusalem, if you take a look at the embassy relocating to Jerusalem, every president guaranteed that, they never did it. I did it.
If you look at a lot of other things that I’ve done– we’re complementing a lot of– you understand, we’re succeeding with China. We’re doing well with North Korea. We’re doing– you understand, I was left a really tough hand.
However this was among the issues. It’s our southern border. And it’s, you know, thousands and thousands of people are can be found in, and we have human smugglers, we have traffickers, we have people– the most significant drug dealers worldwide. And they’re pouring through the parts of the border– they do not go through your areas that are port of entry, Jeanine.
PIRRO: Ports of entry.
TRUMP: They go through locations where you do not have any protection whatsoever. And it’s really very unfortunate and extremely, extremely unsafe and really bad for our nation. A great deal of criminal activity originates from that location.
PIRRO: You understand, I talked to Ron Vitiello, the acting director of ICE, and he stated that there sufficed fentanyl seized by them last year that might eliminate every American in this nation. We understand that 90 percent of the heroin comes through the southern border, and, you know, what we likewise know is that, or you know, there are 800,000 federal workers who didn’t get a check the other day.
You’re sitting there waiting on an offer. The Democrats are not sitting with you. If this isn’t an emergency, I don’t know what is.
TRUMP: Well, I have not actually left the White House in months. And in all fairness, I’m doing a lot of other work. It’s not simply that, however that’s a very crucial aspect of what I’m doing, because we need to get the southern border done. And I have actually been here virtually every night. I think every night other than one day I flew to Iraq and then to Germany to see our soldiers.
TRUMP: And it was terrific. To see them, it was terrific. The level of love they have for this country is unbelievable.
So I flew and after that came back. I’m not even sure I really missed a night, per se. But basically, I have actually been here for numerous months in the White House. And I– you understand, I’m a worker.
PIRRO: I know you– TRUMP: I resemble you, I’m an employee.
PIRRO: You are a worker.
TRUMP: And, honestly, I’m all set, willing and able to get an offer done. However they do not– they believe it’s politics. I think it’s bad politics.
This nation desires to have security at the border. Much of our criminal offenses, much– MS-13 comes through the border, drugs, a big proportion of the drugs from, you understand, that we have from this nation– in this country come through the border. The human trafficking where they connect females up, they put duct tape over their mouth– PIRRO: Right.
TRUMP:– electrical tape and they bring them, and they traffic in women and children, and they come through the border, the areas that I’m speaking about putting a wall. We do that. It can’t happen anymore.
It boggles the mind. It’s only politics. That’s the video game they’re playing. I really think it’s bad politics for them.
PIRRO: So then, you understand, when Nancy Pelosi won, you extremely warmly in November congratulated her, and are you still positive you can get an offer done with her, or has that ship sailed?
TRUMP: No concept. No concept. Well, we won also. You understand, we won the Senate.
PIRRO: Right, right.
TRUMP: And, you know, there are those that would say that the Senate is more important. And, for the many part, I campaigned for the Senate.
TRUMP: And we got extremely little credit. Like even you– you just said they won, we won the Senate. We really picked up additional seats.
PIRRO: You did, yes.
TRUMP: We beat incumbents, Democrat, and practically all over I went, we won.
However, you know, I’m a single person, and your house had numerous races, and yet we won some excellent races where I went. But we won the Senate, Jeanine, we picked up two extra seats. It’s 53-47.
TRUMP: It was 51-49.
PIRRO: All right. So for the last time, considered that they do not want to seem to come to the table, that you have done all the negotiating, why not declare? There’s– TRUMP: Well, that might occur. However I wish to provide a chance to see if they can act responsibly.
TRUMP: They ought to act properly. We’re speaking about the border, and I need to say a great deal of individuals that aren’t getting their checks are letting us know we do not care, you have actually got to solve the crisis at the border.
It’s a humanitarian crisis, and it’s national security. It’s very crucial.
PIRRO: OK. And it’s intriguing, that’s what I heard yesterday from a few of the Border Patrol representatives.
