Democrats are said to be positive that they will win the shutdown over border security– that President Donald Trump will cave to their demands and sign a costs to re-open all federal government departments without getting any financing for his border wall.
Politico reported Thursday night that Democrats “are outlining ways to resume the federal government while rejecting the president even a cent more for his border wall when they take power Jan. 3.”
They are basing that conclusion on the past behavior of Republican leaders when dealing with an overload of unfavorable media coverage about nationwide monoliths closed, incomes delayed, and workplace doors shut. In 2015, McConnell rejected the concept of shutting down the federal government unless Democrats cut off funding to Planned Being a parent, opining: “” There’s no education in the second kick of the mule … We have actually been down this course before.”
Nevertheless, Rep. Mark Meadows (R-TX), chair of the Home Freedom Caucus, told CNN Thursday that Democrats who expected Trump to fold as previous Republican leaders had were “misreading” the president. Trump’s border wall was a foundation of his election project in 2016, indicating that he may not have the ability to provide up on the idea without alienating his citizen base. As such, he might be “gotten ready for a really long shutdown,” as he said recently.
