NBC anchor Andrea Mitchell incorrectly claimed on Friday that President Donald Trump had not condemned neo-Nazis after the Charlottesville riots in August 2017 in covering a conflict Thursday in between this press reporter and former Vice President Joe Biden at the Iowa State Fair.

Biden has repeatedly claimed that Trump called neo-Nazis and white supremacists “extremely great people.” In truth, Trump said: “I’m not speaking about the neo-Nazis and the white nationalists, since they ought to be condemned completely.” He used “very fine people” to refer to non-violent protesters on either side of the issue of the elimination of a statue of Confederate general Robert E. Lee. The media and Democratic prospects often overlook the full quote.

Ironically, Mitchell had actually simply implicated the Trump campaign of taking Biden’s newest gaffe– “Poor kids are simply as bright and skilled as white kids”– out of context, saying the campaign “especially did not include the complete remarks.”

Biden remains the favorite in Iowa, the first state to vote (through caucus) in the 2020 presidential main next year.
