Tuesday on MSNBC’s “Andrea Mitchell Reports,” Democratic governmental prospect Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) said the impeachment of President Donald Trump could start now based on the findings in unique counsel’s Robert Mueller’s report.
When asked if she supported impeachment, Gillibrand said, “I think it is necessary to keep that on the table. I think we need a process. What I’m looking for is an unredacted version of the report. I’m looking for testimony from Robert Mueller in addition to McGahn and the attorney general of the United States. I think it’s truly important that the American individuals get the truth and get all the truths. I think it’s an outrage that this administration tried to change the purpose of the special counsel statute by having the attorney basic location himself in between the report itself and the American people. First with the summary, second with trying to have an interview and third with several redactions. The Congress must have a completely unredacted copy. When we have that we can decide whether we should continue. I think it’s crucial that we get to the fact.”
She continued, “Having read parts of the report I believe there is a basis for blockage of justice and to proceed to impeachment procedures based on what we understand. But I would like to have the remainder of the report totally understood prior to we continue and I want to have the testament taken. I think what Congressman Nadler has actually proposed is wise and suitable. I support that fully.”
She added, “I think it is necessary we leave impeachment on the table however I wish to have a process to arrive. I do wish to take this statement and have the full unredacted report produced to Congress initially. Then we can look at all the facts and make a notified decision. For myself, having at least check out the unredacted parts, I believe there’s numerous basis to discover blockage of justice. Particularly by asking McGahn to fire Mueller, asking him to lie about it and write a memo. There’s 3 examples of what I would consider as blockage of justice and the basis for obstruction of justice impeachment proceeding.”
