Monday on Fox News Channel’s “The Story,” Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) discouraged his Republican congressional colleagues from making an issue out of President Donald Trump’s prospective choice to declare an emergency to develop a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border.
The South Carolina Republican stated a contract made by the Congress would have been chosen however stated he did not see it as a possibility offered Democrats’ unwillingness to compromise, and therefore Trump is required to use the emergency declaration, which Graham said argued was legal.
” I think shutting the federal government down is not a great way to get the wall developed,” Graham stated. “The very best method is to get the wall constructed is to work with Democrats, if they will deal with the Republicans, to construct a wall and so some other things. However it does not look like Nancy Pelosi’s going to give Democrats much area. So if I were the president, what I would do is use the power of commander-in-chief to decrease to the border, and not simply send troops, but actually to set up barriers.”
” What’s the difference in between a soldier being sent out to protect the border and a soldier being sent to set up a barrier to secure the border?” he included. “Legally none. To my Republican coworkers, we do not require a war over the wall. The Democrats are pressing back to the president– the last thing we require as Republican politicians is for us to undercut his ability to go it alone if he needs to.
