Equinox and SoulCycle responded to require members to cancel their subscriptions on Wednesday over their owner’s plans to host a mega-fundraiser for President Donald Trump.
Equinox Physical fitness, which operates its name company in addition to SoulCycle and Blink Fitness, provided a statement in the middle of outrage over Stephen Ross’s upcoming charity event for Trump, where tickets run as high as $250,000, according to The Washington Post, which initially reported news of the event.
Ross, a billionaire investor, is chairman and majority owner of Associated Business, which manages Equinox Physical fitness, but the company said it considers him to be a “passive investor.”
“We wish to let you understand that Equinox and SoulCycle have absolutely nothing to do with the occasion and do not support it,” the luxury fitness center tweeted Wednesday afternoon. “As follows our policies, no business profits are utilized to fund political leaders.”
“We are devoted to all our members and the communities we live in. We believe in tolerance and equality, and will always stay true to those values. Mr. Ross is a passive financier and is not associated with the management of either business,” it added.
SoulCycle tweeted a comparable declaration.

The reaction came as celebs, including model Chrissy Teigen, comedian Billy Eichner and “Waiting to Breathe out” author Terry McMillan, tweeted about canceling their subscriptions after discovering the news.
At one point on Wednesday, Equinox was the No. 2 trending subject in the U.S. on Twitter, with #BoycottEquinox and SoulCycle trending together with it, and Stephen Ross was No. 4.
“Just contacted @Equinox to cancel my subscription after many years. Loan talks, specifically with these monsters. If it’s too troublesome for u to trade one LUXURY HEALTH CLUB for another, then you should be embarrassed. (No disrespect to the numerous terrific employees at my regional Equinox). Bye,” Eichner, a severe critic of the president, tweeted.
“Called Equinox to cancel my subscription and they put me on hold so long I hung up. Called back: exact same thing. Tomorrow, I’m going to face the person and cut up my card in pieces in front of him. #Equinox,” McMillan included.
Ross, a long time partner of Trump’s, issued a declaration of his own in the middle of the reaction, keeping in mind that he does not always concur with the president. He likewise received criticism from fans and players on the Miami Dolphins, which he also owns.

“I have actually understood Donald Trump for 40 years, and while we concur on some problems, we strongly disagree on lots of others and I have actually never been bashful about revealing my viewpoints,” Ross said. “I have been, and will continue to be, an outspoken champion of racial equality, addition, variety, public education and environmental sustainability, and I have and will continue to support leaders on both sides of the aisle to resolve these obstacles.”
