Mayor Nan Whaley of Dayton, Ohio, and Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) criticized President Donald Trump for “divisive” rhetoric after he visited the city Wednesday– though Sunday’s mass shooter was a left-wing socialist.
As Breitbart News and other outlets reported, the shooter who opened fire in the congested Oregon district this weekend, killing nine and injuring over two lots more, had left-wing views. His supposed Twitter account consisted of tweets assaulting Trump; calling for vandalism against Migration and Customs Enforcement (ICE); demanding socialism; and supporting Sens. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) and Bernie Sanders (I-VT) for president.
Paradoxically, as theDayton Daily Newskept in mind, the shooter was also an ardent proponent of gun control.
Whaley and Brown– who initially stated he would not consult with Trump– welcomed the president warmly at the airport. However after meeting the president, the two Democrats gave a partisan press conference in which they attacked Trump.
Brown informed reporters: “I altered my mind about coming. I didn’t want in any method to motivate the president’s racist talk and dissentious talk. I came due to the fact that Mayor Whaley asked me to come.”
He added: “I’m really worried about a president that divides in his rhetoric, and plays to race in his rhetoric, and is racist.” Brown also consistently attacked the National Rifle Association.
Whalen said that she was thankful Trump had not checked out the website of the shooting in the Oregon district: “I believe a great deal of individuals that own services in that district aren’t thinking about the president existing. And, you know, a great deal of the time his talk can be extremely divisive, and that’s the last thing we need in Dayton.”
