WASHINGTON (AP)– President Donald Trump is falsely recommending that the individuals “closest” to him weren’t called to affirm before unique counsel Robert Mueller and his group because private investigators didn’t wish to hear the “good ideas” those people would wish to share about the president. Plenty of people near to Trump, or who worked carefully with him, were talked to by private investigators or welcomed to do so.

TRUMP: “Isn’t it incredible that the individuals who were closest to me, by far, and understood the Campaign much better than anybody, were never even called to affirm prior to Mueller. The reason is that the 18 Angry Democrats understood they would all state ‘NO COLLUSION’ and only extremely great things!” Tweet on Monday.

THE FACTS: The president is incorrect on multiple counts here.

A lot of people near to him, including in his own household, interviewed with Mueller’s team or were at least asked to appear. And of those who did, some stated not really great aspects of their interactions with the president.

Amongst the consultants and assistants who spoke to Mueller was his former White Home counsel, Don McGahn, who thoroughly detailed Trump’s outrage at the examination and his efforts to cut it. McGahn informed Mueller’s team how Trump called him at home and prompted him to press the Justice Department to fire the special counsel, then told him to deny that the entire episode had actually occurred when it became public.

Others who were spoken with by Mueller include two former White House chiefs of personnel, Reince Priebus and John Kelly, former White House communications director Hope Hicks, White Home press secretary Sarah Sanders and previous strategist Steve Bannon.

Michael Cohen, Trump’s former personal legal representative who once said he was so near to the president that he ‘d “take a bullet” for him, also worked together with Mueller and provided unflattering information.

Mueller certainly desired to speak with Trump’s family too, even if not all relatives aspired to work together. His earliest boy, Donald Trump Jr., decreased to be willingly interviewed by detectives, according to Mueller’s report. Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, spoke numerous times to Mueller’s team. And among the president’s children, Ivanka Trump, provided information through a lawyer.

The White Home has not yet said to whom Trump was referring in his tweet.
