Tuesday on MSNBC’s “The Rachel Maddow Program,” Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) accused both President Donald Trump and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement of “methodically broken human rights.”

Ocasio-Cortez said, “I can not inform you the amount of dysfunction that this president is advancing. We now have over 100 new members of the freshman class. I can not get even get laptops to my caseworkers in the Bronx and Queens to process the needs of constituents. We can not get casework began due to the fact that the president decided to hold the paychecks of everyday Americans hostage so that he can meet a project, I can’t call it a project promise, a fantasy. Not only that in the real address there was fraud after fraud and we need to ensure we get the facts directly. Everyday immigrants commit criminal offenses at a far lower rate than native-born Americans. And not just that however the females and children on the border looking for haven and opportunity in the United States of America with nothing but the t-shirt on their backs are acting more American than any person who looks for to keep them out ever will be.”

She added, “It’s not unexpected since even before he was elected president of the United States he has a tested track record of discrimination versus anyone that’s none white in the United States. He had been sued by the Nixon administration in the past for not renting to black Americans. He has had controversy after controversy, so this is really consistent. It’s not simply the continued lies throughout his administration, but frankly, it becomes part of a very consistent pattern of his whole life.”

After stating Trump has “racist and violent rhetoric,” Ocasio-Cortez said, “The something the president has actually not spoken about is the truth he has methodically engaged in the offense of human rights on our border. He has actually separated kids from their families. He discussed what occurred the day after Christmas, on the day of Christmas, a kid passed away in ICE custody. The president needs to not be requesting more money to a firm that has actually methodically violated human rights. The president ought to be really protecting why we are funding such a company when today what we are seeing is death. Right now what we are seeing is the violation of human rights. These children and households are being held in basically freezing boxes that no individual ought to be kept in for any quantity of time not to mention the quantity of time they are being kept.”
